I may even give one a try this pricing seems very fair. I hate getting ripped off for fad, experimental and vanity products

Must be nice to have that kind of buying power to bring the price down. I know I paid considerably more.

Nice find. I'll have to buy some.

They are also selling torrefied Sitka spruce brace blanks.

Just because it says torrefied doesn't make it better. I gt a set in and it seemed like they took low grade Sitka and torrefied it. I'm sure it will make a fine guitar but it did not seem like it was amazing. It also seemed to want to crumble. Some tests need to be done to see how it will react to brides peeling off.

Can only hope it will not ruin anybody's marriage. Sorry couldn't help it

This thread is about pricing, perhaps the OLF sponsor will chime in regarding the low quality Sitka assertion? -- there is a very good thread elsewhere regarding merits.

Lost me -- SM is selling Torrfied neck blanks? I am referring to the $58 "AAA" Torrrified Sitka sound boards.

If the grade of the torrified Sitka top is AAA then $58 is a great price. The top shown in the catalog under finish looks no better than an A grade top with knot shadow. I like the look but that isn't an AAA top.

I'm sure that if they were selling torrified Red spruce tops it would be similarly priced to others (or higher) who have the same tops. I like Stewmac a lot but they are a bit high on tonewood prices compared to our other sponsors. Having said that I am still very interested in getting one of these tops to see what the fuss is all about. I want to compare it to some old tops I have from the 50's (Euro spruce) and 70's (Sitka spruce).

most terrified tops that are being sold are red spruce . Martin has been experimenting a long time with this. Clamping time should be longer than raw wood and the wood doesn't allow as much water to be soaked into the wood as raw tops. I have made a number of guitars with this and they have proved to be stable . A number of builder have been using this for a long time and it does have a following. All I can say is that it is just another ingredient in the recipe and worth considering. Torrified wood will work a bit differently than raw wood and to me it seems to act not unlike old guitars tops that I have worked on.
It is all in the hemocellulous layer and how that changes. Just like old wood that light won't pass through neither will torrified wood.

John,

What glues are you using for jointing and to attach the braces?

What finish have you been using?

TIA,

Dan
